Under Canvas Yellowstone Review: Our Romantic Gl...
Celebrating our 5th wedding anniversary, James and I (Amelia) decided to ditch the city lights and embrace the star-studded skies of Montana. As a UX designer and a software engineer, we’re pretty plugged in, but this trip was all about disconnecting and reconnecting with each other amidst nature's grandeur. We chose Under Canvas Yellowstone near West Yellowstone for a luxury camping Yellowstone anniversary experience, and it was everything we hoped for – and more! From the ease of navigation with their app to the breathtaking wildlife encounters, this glamping Yellowstone near West Yellowstone getaway exceeded our expectations. Read on for our full Under Canvas Yellowstone review and why we're already planning our return.
Easy Arrival and Settling In
Navigating to Under Canvas Yellowstone was surprisingly simple, thanks to the Under Canvas app. After landing at West Yellowstone Airport, we followed the app’s turn-by-turn directions directly to the campsite. The app is a lifesaver, especially when you’re eager to start your vacation. We were in safari-style tent #22, conveniently located near the Firepit Lounge.

Settling in was a breeze. The tent was pre-set up with everything we needed: a ridiculously comfortable king-size bed, a charming wood-burning stove (perfect for those chilly Montana nights), and, most importantly, an en-suite bathroom. This wasn’t roughing it; this was glamping! These safari tent Yellowstone amenities made our stay so luxurious and comfortable.
Respecting the Wilderness: Camp Rules
Under Canvas Yellowstone takes its environmental responsibility seriously, and we appreciated that. Their Yellowstone glamping Leave No Trace policy is strictly enforced, which includes not feeding the wildlife (no matter how cute those chipmunks are!). Quiet hours are from 10 PM to 7 AM, ensuring everyone gets a peaceful night’s sleep. Violations can result in fines, so it’s important to respect the rules and the environment. They really stress creating a sustainable experience, which we admired.
Bathroom Bliss: Creature Comforts in the Wild
Forget communal showers and porta-potties! Our en-suite bathroom was a game-changer. It featured a flushing toilet, a hot shower with great water pressure, and lovely organic bath products. Under Canvas also employs eco-friendly water conservation practices, reminding us to be mindful of our usage. It’s impressive how they balance luxury with sustainability. What are the Under Canvas Yellowstone bathroom eco-friendly practices? Well, they utilize low-flow fixtures, encouraging shorter showers, and use eco-friendly cleaning supplies.
Adventures Await: Yellowstone Activities
Yellowstone is a playground for outdoor enthusiasts, and Under Canvas Yellowstone puts you right in the heart of it. We packed our days with incredible experiences.
Fly Fishing on the Madison River: We booked a guided fly-fishing tour with "TroutHunter" on the Madison River. While it was a splurge at $650 for the day, the experience was unforgettable. Our guide was knowledgeable and patient, and we both caught some beautiful trout. How much does fly fishing cost on the Madison River Yellowstone cost? Expect to pay between $500 and $800 for a full-day guided tour.
Wildlife Viewing in Lamar Valley: Armed with our Vortex Diamondback HD 8x42 binoculars, we ventured into Lamar Valley for some serious wildlife spotting. We saw herds of bison and even caught a glimpse of wolves in the distance. What wildlife can you see in Lamar Valley? Primarily bison, elk, wolves, pronghorn, and occasionally bears.

- Sunset Horseback Riding: We ended one day with a magical sunset horseback riding tour through Yellowstone National Park with "Yellowstone Horses" ($150 per person). Riding through the park as the sun dipped below the horizon was truly breathtaking.
A Bison Encounter at Dawn
One morning, I woke up early and peeked out of our tent. To my astonishment, a herd of bison was grazing just a short distance away! It was an incredible sight. Of course, I grabbed my iPhone 14 Pro and started capturing a time-lapse video of the sunrise over the bison. It was magical! I made sure to maintain a safe distance, respecting their space. This is why unique anniversary trips to Montana are so rewarding.

Fireside Chats and New Friends
The social aspect of glamping at Under Canvas was also a highlight. One evening, we found ourselves chatting with another couple from Seattle at the Firepit Lounge. We shared stories about our national park adventures and even exchanged UX design podcast recommendations (turns out, they were also techies!).
