The air in Ljubljana in autumn is a crisp, invigorating elixir, carrying the scent of woodsmoke and damp leaves. Standing on Tromostovje (Triple Bridge), my wide-angle lens (a trusty 16-35mm) barely contained the scene. The Ljubljanica is so clean, its hard to believe this bustling city is right on its banks! I highly recommend this for anyone visiting the city to get up close and personal with nature.

Ljubljana Wine Route: A Celebration of Flavors

The "Ljubljana Wine Route" was another highlight. Fairy lights twinkled across the cobblestone streets, creating a festive atmosphere. The aroma of štruklji (a traditional rolled dough pastry) and roasted chestnuts filled the air, mingling with the enticing scents of local wines. I sampled Cviček, a light, refreshing red wine, and Rebula, a crisp white – both unique to the region. Capturing the energy of the bustling crowd was a challenge, but I experimented with a slower shutter speed (around 1/30th) to create a sense of motion blur, conveying the vibrant energy of the event.

Slovenian Cuisine: A Taste of Autumn

Slovenian cuisine is hearty and comforting, perfect for the cool autumn weather. My experience at "Gostilna Sokol" was unforgettable. I indulged in jota, a traditional bean and sauerkraut stew, its rich, savory flavors warming me from the inside out. And of course, I couldn't resist trying potica, a delicious nut roll, its delicate sweetness complementing the savory stew. His distinctive style is evident in many of Ljubljana's iconic landmarks, including the Tromostovje (Triple Bridge) and the Central Market. He truly shaped the look and feel of the city. I recommend walking along the river and just soaking it all in!

Julian Alps (Day 4-7): Embracing the Wilderness

Leaving the urban charm of Ljubljana behind, I ventured into the rugged beauty of the Julian Alps, ready to immerse myself in nature's grandeur.

Photography Workshop: Mastering the Art

I participated in a 3-day photography workshop led by the incredibly talented Peter Zajc. The workshop focused on capturing the vibrant autumn colors of the Julian Alps, and I learned invaluable techniques. We explored focus stacking to maximize sharpness in landscape shots, ensuring every detail from foreground to background was crisp. I also learned how to effectively use graduated neutral density filters to balance exposure in high-contrast scenes, especially useful when photographing dramatic landscapes with bright skies. My camera of choice for this trip was my Sony Alpha 7R IV, paired with a sturdy tripod and a selection of lenses to cover a range of focal lengths.

Via Ferrata: A Thrilling Ascent

One of the most exhilarating experiences was tackling a via ferrata route near Mojstrana. The route was rated as moderate, requiring a good level of fitness and a head for heights. Essential equipment included a helmet, harness, and via ferrata set. The adrenaline rush of scaling the rock face, clipped in for safety, was incredible. The panoramic views of the Triglav National Park were simply breathtaking, the vibrant autumn foliage painting the landscape in a tapestry of scarlet, gold, and crimson. Using my telephoto lens (70-200mm), I was able to compress the landscape and emphasize the rich color palette, creating a stunning visual impact.

Exploring the Škocjan Caves was like entering another world. The immense scale of the underground canyon was awe-inspiring, the roaring Reka River echoing through the vast caverns.
