We were absolutely thrilled with our campsite! It was spacious, level, and offered a good amount of shade from the towering redwood trees. The kids immediately started exploring while Dave and I tackled the tent. The ground was soft enough for tent pegs, but not too soft that they wouldn’t hold.
Each campsite came equipped with a sturdy picnic table and a fire ring, perfect for cooking and evening campfires. We also appreciated the strategically placed bear-resistant food storage locker. Redwood Creek Campground is definitely bear country, so storing food properly is crucial.

The campground rules were clearly posted at the entrance and throughout the campground. They were primarily focused on safety (bear awareness, fire safety) and noise levels (quiet hours from 10 pm to 6 am). We found the rules to be reasonable and well-enforced by the park rangers who patrolled the area regularly.
We appreciated the emphasis on Leave No Trace principles. There were plenty of trash and recycling receptacles available, and campers seemed respectful of keeping their campsites clean. Overall, the rules fostered a safe and enjoyable environment for everyone. The only reason it isn't a full 5 stars is that we did hear some chatter past quiet hours one evening, but it wasn't excessive and didn't last long.
Bathroom Bliss (or Not!): Addressing the Amenities
Bathroom & Shower Facilities (Cleanliness & Maintenance): 3/5 Stars
Okay, let's talk bathrooms. This is often a make-or-break factor for family camping. The bathroom facilities at Redwood Creek Campground were…adequate. They were cleaned daily, but during peak season, they could get a bit crowded and occasionally a little messy.
The flush toilets were definitely a plus, and there were sinks with running water and soap. However, the showers were a bit of a mixed bag. Hot water was available, but it wasn’t always consistent, and there were times when we experienced a bit of a wait. We recommend bringing your own hand sanitizer and shower shoes. While not the worst we've seen, this is an area that could use some improvement.

We particularly enjoyed the Redwood Discovery Trail, a short, paved loop that was perfect for little legs. Lily and Tom loved spotting banana slugs and identifying different types of ferns.
Creek Exploration: Redwood Creek runs alongside the campground, providing endless opportunities for splashing, rock skipping, and wildlife viewing. The kids spent hours building dams and searching for crawdads. Remember to supervise children closely near the water!
Junior Ranger Program: The Redwood National and State Parks offer a fantastic Junior Ranger program. Lily and Tom completed the activities in the booklet and earned their badges at the visitor center. It's a great way to learn about the park's natural history and conservation efforts.
