1. Head west on TX-580 W from Lampasas.
2. Continue on TX-580 W for approximately 28 miles.

4. Follow Co Rd 446 for about 6 miles until you reach the park entrance.

The majority of the drive is on paved roads, but the final stretch on County Road 446 is unpaved. It's generally well-maintained, but be prepared for some bumps and dust, especially after rain. We recommend checking road conditions, especially if you are driving a low-clearance vehicle. Cell service can be spotty in the area, so download offline maps before you go!

Let’s be honest: setting up our tent at Colorado Bend was a bit of a challenge. The ground in the campgrounds is rocky – seriously rocky! We’d recommend bringing a tent with a reinforced floor to prevent punctures. A freestanding tent design is also helpful, as it allows you to move the tent around to find the flattest (or least rocky) spot. And, most importantly, bring extra padding! We used thick sleeping pads, but even with those, we felt the rocks. Consider bringing a foam pad or even an old rug to put under your tent for extra comfort. Bringing Your Furry Friend: Colorado Bend State Park with Dogs

While we didn't bring our dog on this particular trip, it's good to know that Colorado Bend State Park is dog-friendly, with some restrictions. They are not allowed in the buildings or on the Gorman Falls trail beyond the overlook. Always clean up after your pet and dispose of waste properly.
