Finding Big Sur Campground is surprisingly easy. Just look for the signs along Highway 1, a stone's throw from the breathtaking Bixby Bridge. Seriously, you can’t miss it! The campground offers numerous car-camping sites conveniently located near the refreshing Big Sur River. We loved being able to park right at our campsite, making unloading all our gear a snap. This made setup super easy, meaning more time for hiking and exploring!

Campground Rules: Safety First!

California's fire season demands vigilance, so always check fire restrictions before you arrive. Strict campfire regulations are enforced, usually requiring fires to be contained within provided fire rings. Also, be aware of the 10 PM noise curfew – perfect for ensuring everyone gets a good night's sleep. Food storage is crucial! Utilize the bear boxes provided at each campsite. While bears aren't frequent visitors, raccoons are! They’re sneaky and will try to snatch any unattended food. The park strictly enforces a "Leave No Trace" policy. Rangers actively patrol the campsites, so be sure to pack out everything you pack in.

Remember to respect the natural beauty of Big Sur. This means packing out all trash, minimizing campfire impacts, staying on designated trails, and leaving plants and rocks undisturbed.

Bathrooms & Showers: Rustic But Functional

The bathrooms are definitely on the rustic side, but they are kept reasonably clean. Sinks offer cold water only, so plan accordingly. Showers are available, but they are coin-operated. Bring plenty of quarters! We also highly recommend bringing flip-flops for shower hygiene.

We played card games, told stories around the campfire, and simply enjoyed each other's company. If you have to work, consider a satellite internet device or plan on driving to an area with better reception.
